Buncombe Young Dems
I recently attended my first Buncombe Young Dems monthly meeting. I am no longer a ‘young dem,’ but their meetings are open to all Democrats and left-leaning unaffiliated voters no matter your age.
This group of young people are thoughtful, passionate, committed, and focused on progressive ideals for our county and beyond. The meeting provided a recap of their primary endorsement (Martin Moore for District Attorney District 40 - who won), results of the primary, and initial thoughts on the endorsement process for the Mayor’s Race, City Council, Buncombe County School Board (Districts 03, 05, 06), and Asheville City School Board (4 seats).
One member is very data-centric and shared some really interesting graphics of how each precinct/WNC county voted in their respective primaries. If I can get that information, I will certainly share. This member also mentioned that in the 2024 general election while most of the country was shifting red, NC-11 shifted blue. Let’s improve on that blue shift for this 2026 general election!
If you, or your children, or grandchildren, are looking for a younger group of like-minded people to hang out with, I strongly recommend checking out these Young Dems. They meet the third Tuesday of the month from 6:30-8pm at the Buncombe Democratic Headquarters (951 Old Fairview Road, Asheville, NC, 28803). There are no membership dues to join, so just show up and hear what they have planned this election season.
Fun Fact: Did you know the Young Dems of North Carolina were the first of this type of organization? Formed in 1928, the Young Democrats of North Carolina is the oldest Young Democrats chapter in America. It founded the Young Democrats of America.1
